Planned Giving
Transformative Gifts that Last a Lifetime.
Planned or deferred gifts are designed to help our generous donors enhance their estate planning, unlock tax benefits, and augment investment and retirement funds, all while creating a meaningful legacy at Merion Mercy.
The Legacy Society recognizes those individuals who have made Merion Mercy a priority by leaving a lasting gift through a planned or deferred giving. Your legacy gift to the Society can be of any amount you designate. There is no minimum contribution required, nor is there any cap on the amount you may wish to give. Further, you can designate your gift in any way you prefer – to academics, arts, athletics, capital improvements, professional development, scholarship, or the area of greatest area of need. By designating Merion Mercy Endowment Fund as a recipient of your gift, you will provide a permanent gift that will ensure the financial stability of MMA’s future.
For questions about a legacy gift, or to let us know that Merion Mercy is included in your plans, please contact Director of Development, Stacy Gallagher, at sgallagher@merion-mercy.com or 610-664-6655, ext. 180.
Planned Giving Opportunities
All of us who have been blessed by the Mercy journey are profoundly impacted by our shared Charism of joy, service, compassion, and competence. We carry this with us our entire lives, lighting a bright and clear path. This light will go on and on—in our students today and in the students of generations to come—enduring as our continuous, life-affirming north star.
Gifts of Appreciated Stock
When you donate appreciated stock that you have held for more than a year, you not only get your current tax deduction for your gift but also avoid long-term capital gains taxes.
Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD)
QCDs are a valuable way you can support Merion Mercy now and receive tax benefits in return. The donor must be 70 ½ years old on the date of the gift.
Bequest
A bequest is the transfer of funds or property from your testamentary estate—your estate after you die—to Merion Mercy.
Gift of Life Insurance
If you are purchasing a new life insurance policy, have a whole life policy that you are still paying premiums on, or own a paid up policy that you no longer need, you may make a meaningful irrevocable gift of the policy to Merion Mercy.
Gift of a Retirement Fund
By designating Merion Mercy as a beneficiary of your retirement fund, these proceeds come to MMA without any tax consequence to your estate, passing free of both state inheritance and federal estate taxes.
