Scholastic National Regatta (SRAA)
The Varsity 4+ and Lightweight 4+ claimed two SRAA National Championship Silver place finishes for the MMA Rowing team!
The conditions were perfect for some great racing at Cities. Merion entered an impressive seven boats, with the Freshmen pouring it on strong for two silvers, and the V8 edging out Holy Spirit and the Mount to take silver!
Three Locations, Lots of Medals: Rowing Recap
Recapping a very busy weekend in April for the golden bears of crew team in three locations (and with every girl pulling their hardest!): Steve Neczypor Regatta in Jersey, Miami International Regatta in Florida, Manny Flick in Philly. Proud to bring home some first place finishes (and many great performaces) too!
Congratulations to the Freshman 8 boat that won first place in their first and second flicks.
Exciting news: MMA alumna Emily Schmieg '06 earned bronze at the 2017 World Rowing Championships. Emily (of Potomac Boat Club), along with Michelle Sechser (of Vesper Boat Club), finished 3rd in the LW2X. Yes, that is 3rd in the world! Click here for more on Emily!
King's Head Regatta
Great weekend, inlcuding two gold medals, at the King's Head Regatta. Click hereto read more and view all of the results.
Many have asked about the tee shirts our rowers wore at the regatta. Here is a nice response to that question offered by Kelly Gregitis '12, sister to alumna rower Megan '14 and current rower Taylor '19.
"Every year at the King’s Head Regatta, the Merion Mercy Rowing Team continues the tradition of support and remembers our classmate Jacqueline Kay Fioravanti '12, who courageously battled cancer while a student at Merion. As a freshman attending St. Joseph’s University in February, 2013, Jackie lost her life too soon. Our "Team Jackie" is just a small reminder of the strong bond we have created with our Merion sisters. Jackie’s strength, courage and endless love will forever stick with us and remind us to always keep our heads up through the tough times."
