Rowing took home a pair of gold medals in the 91st Stotesbury Cup Regatta. MMA has only won two other golds at Stotes, and both on the same day in 2012–a Freshman 8+ gold and a Varsity 4+ gold. In 2017, we won gold in the V4+ category again, and took home gold in the Lightweight 8+ category for the first time.
Pictured here are members of the class of 2017 who wons Stotes gold: Jeanne McGill, Cate Schrieber, Morgan Lamb, Olivia Anderson, Sarah Capuzzi and Daniela Sciulli (cox). The three on the left were in the V4+ together; the three on the right were in the LTWT8+ together.

In the Philadelphia Scholastic Rowing Association (PSRA) City Championships, MMA's Lightweight 8+ and JV8+ both earned Silver, Morgan Sherman '17 made MMA Rowing history as our first Varsity 1x Rower, and V4+ won Gold and took home the “Michael L. Brown Trophy”!
Pictured here donning their gold medals, the V4+ Crew: Morgan Lamb '17, Emma Braun '18, Cece Wendel '19 (cox), Cate Schrieber '17, and Jeanne McGill '17.
The Michael L. Brown Trophy that Cece is hoisting in the photo below was donated by longtime MMA Rowing supporters, Marilyn and Clark O’Donoghue (their daughter Monica ‘08 rowed for MMA). They donated the trophy in Mike’s name, and it lives on in perpetuity each year. This year, our team name will get etched into it, and it will grace the halls of MMA for the upcoming year, right beside the team trophy we won a few weeks back at St. Andrew’s.

Monica Tassoni Cryan '06, a deserving and accomplished MMA rowing alumna, has moved out of her MMA bow seat and onto our television screens.
Monica was one of the original 32 students at the start of the official rowing program in 2005. In her senior year, she earned the bow seat of our Lightweight 8, which holds the distinction of being the first MMA boat to medal at the Varsity level in the City Championships. After she graduated from Merion, Monica received her undergraduate degree in Meteorology from Penn State University before crossing the nation as a Broadcast Meteorologist at news stations in Texas, Alabama, Connecticut, and Colorado. In November, she landed her "dream job" as a Broadcast Meteorologist for Fox 29 News in Philadelphia. You can catch her Saturday evenings at 6 p.m. and 10 p.m. (no doubt with a ribbon in her hair).
Monica attributes her success to the lessons learned while a member of the crew and is blessed to drive by Boathouse Row on her way to work. She and her husband Eugene reside in Havertown and look forward to once again being at the tent come spring. We wish her the best of luck as she continues to move mountains both personally and professionally.
