Merion Mercy Academy and 23 other Mercy Education schools were among the 163 recipients of a Mercy Fund for Ministry grant for the 2022-2023 cycle. Merion Mercy’s award was for $25,000 to support its summer service program. The Mercy Mission Corps (MMC) Summer Program (formerly Mercy Volunteer Program) provides educational and service immersion opportunities for current and rising seniors.

MMC groups travel to domestic sites, working in collaboration with community partners in solidarity with people of diverse cultures, especially those who are materially poor. Volunteers live in community for an extended time and are called to spirit-filled reflection that encourages them to grow as women of mercy. MMC provides volunteers the opportunity to explore and address social justice issues, share cultural experiences and offer a ministry of presence to community members. Past experiences have included creating, collaborating on and teaching Vacation Bible School programs and serving in community outreach to address hunger, homelessness, elder and child care.

Together, Mercy Education and Mercy schools received $710,300 in funding. Grant totals ranged from $9,000 to the maximum grant award, $40,000, for projects supporting the Critical Concerns and the 2017 Chapter Recommitment. Funded projects included: tuition assistance and financial aid; support of diversity programs; establishment of green-friendly initiatives; and support of service programs and campus ministry.

Other recipients included social service, healthcare and pastoral/spiritual ministries connected to the mission of Mercy in the Caribbean, Central and South America, the Philippines and the United States and Guam.

Interim Head of School Marianne Grace says, "We are grateful to the Institute Leadership Team of the Sisters of Mercy and to the Board of Directors of Mercy Ministry Corporation who steward the Mercy Fund for Ministry Grant Program, providing us with necessary funds to animate the Critical Concerns."
