Arts and Culture

This concentration prepares students to inform, persuade, educate, and engage through the creative use of visual arts, performing arts, and/or languages. Coursework, co-curricular activities and internships will provide a balance of theory and practice through real-world applications. This concentration is divided into three focus areas. Students select one of these focus areas.

Performing arts at Merion Mercy Academy

Language and Culture (at least 3 years of a primary language is required, along with at least 2 of the following):

  • A 4th year of a primary language

  • At least 1 year of a secondary language (2 years if only 3 years of primary language)

  • Speech and Contemporary Issues

  • Mythology

  • Other (moderator approval)

Co-Curricular Activities* 

  • Active participation and/or leadership with one of the following: Image Explosion, Ricordia, Meriannal  (moderator(s) must attest to the student’s active participation and responsible completion of the tasks required).

  • National Art Honor Society, Communication Officer

  • National Latin/French/Spanish Honor Society

  • Latin/French/Spanish Club

  • Create and print a series of posters promoting the service programs (ex; National Art Honor Society, Mercy Mission Corps)

  • Research, write and produce a video for in-house broadcast promoting a service club or organization, addressing a topic of relevance to the community, or relating to one of the Mercy Core Values.

  • Under the guidance of the Dean and Student Council moderators, write and produce a series of videos for freshmen orientation on topical issues to ease them into the community.

  • Participation and service activities with an affinity group or cultural heritage club

  • Tri-M Society

  • Sirens of Baggot Street

  • Handbells

  • Merion Mercy Music Theater

  • Gospel Choir

  • Complete an after-school program or summer internship coordinated by Merion Mercy alumnae network

*Clubs require a minimum expectation of two years of active participation and/or leadership verified by club moderator.
