The Blue Key Society is a leadership program that offers Merion students an opportunity to represent and promote Merion Mercy Academy and to provide our Mercy hospitality to all they meet. The primary goal of a student ambassador is to provide prospective students and their parents the opportunity to explore MMA through the eyes of a current student. As a member of the society, you may spark a new interest in life at Merion Mercy or help students finalize their high school decision.

The goal of our National French Honor Society is to promote the appreciation of the French language, enthusiasm for francophone culture, and understanding of the French-speaking world. Members of the Society must demonstrate academic excellence through the achievement of:

-three consecutive semesters of an A grade as well as

-a dedicated interest in the continued study of French

Inducted students have sought to go beyond the basics of language learning to develop a meaningful cultural awareness.

The National Latin Honor Society is dedicated to promoting the study of the Latin language and recognizing its myriad contributions to both modern and ancient civilizations and its interdisciplinary merits. Members of the Latin Honor Society must demonstrate academic excellence through the achievement of three consecutive semesters of an A or higher in Latin, and a commitment to continuing the study of Latin.

The main goals of the Math Honor Society are to inspire keen interest in mathematics, develop strong scholarship in the subject, and promote the enjoyment of mathematics in high school students.

Our Ministry Team provides an opportunity for students to integrate learned Christian values and principles into their daily pattern of living and into the broader context of their community. The team is divided into five groups, each with a faculty moderator. Team members help organize Theology class liturgies, and assist in planning retreats as well as paraliturgical services for special occasions.

The entire team comes together once a month to assess needs and set future directions - these meetings allow for a building of team spirit and time to work together as a group, reorganize and nurture leadership, and foster creativity. Membership is limited to students in the 10th, 11th and 12th grades. Students must first go through an initial selection process and are then chosen by the School Minister.

Tri-M Society is an international music honor society, which recognizes musical achievement, academic excellence, and community service. In order to participate, students must be active in two different Performing Arts activities and contribute 20 hours of community service. This may be in the form of performing at the Convent for the retired Sisters of Mercy, singing or playing at nursing homes, helping with the needs of the Performing Arts Department, and singing or playing for the liturgies, open houses, and other school functions. An award ceremony is presented at the end of the year.

Merion's chapter of the National Art Honor Society is a service-based group with one important goal: to serve both the local and global communities through visual-art based service projects. We welcome students of all grades who wish to perform 15 hours of art-related service to those in need within a school year. 

Membership into the National Honor Society is open to qualified members of the junior and senior class. To be eligible, a student must, at a minimum, have a quality cumulative (unrounded) grade point average of 3.6. In mid-September, eligible students will be invited via email to apply for consideration of membership. A physical copy of this application will be due to the NHS moderator by the end of September. There are absolutely no extensions given for this process. Additionally, all applications must be complete. Incomplete applications will not be reviewed. Following this, a special committee of faculty members and administration will review each qualifying candidate in the areas of scholarship, leadership, character and service. Students will be notified by early November regarding their application status. Induction takes place in mid November of each year. As a member of the NHS, students are expected to uphold the four pillars - scholarship, leadership, service, and character. A student unable to do this, will be placed on membership probation. NHS members are expected to complete a minimum of 4 hours of service per semester. 

The purpose of this organization is to encourage participation in and recognition of scientific and intellectual thought, and a dedication to the pursuit of scientific knowledge that benefits all mankind. It is to advance the students’ knowledge of classical and modern science, to communicate with the scientific community, and to aid the civic community with its comprehension of science.

Throughout the year, students hold general meetings during co-curricular periods and discuss relevant topics in science. They also plan science week, organize community service, and help with science tutoring. Our goal is to create women scientists of tomorrow. To be eligible, a student must maintain a 3.0 GPA in all courses and a 3.7 GPA across all science courses. At the completion of the year, you should have completed 3 science courses; at least one course at the honors level or an upper level science course. You must take at least one science course all 4 years at MMA (even senior year).

To be eligible for membership in the National Social Studies Honor Society (Rho Kappa), students must meet the following requirements: 

1. Completed two years of Social Studies classes 

2. A GPA of 3.80  or higher in all completed Social Studies courses. 

3. A cumulative GPA of  3.65 or higher. 

4. Demonstrated interest, active participation, and potential leadership in extracurricular activities (school sponsored or community based) related to the academic disciplines within the Social Studies. 

Spanish Honor Society is an academic organization that seeks to promote and engage in the study of the Spanish Language and associated civilizations and cultures, and complete service to that end. Students who have received a grade of A or above for 3 consecutive semesters and who have chosen to continue their study of the language into the 3rd and 4th year are invited to be inducted as members.

The Student Council is a group of students, elected by the student body to partner with administration in building an effective school community. Elements include providing an effective voice for students in those school-related issues which affect their lives; maintaining a continuous communication channel between students and faculty/administration, as well as among the students themselves; encouraging students in the duties and responsibilities of good citizenship, using the school environment as the primary training ground; and mirroring the quality of leadership among fellow students to encourage and facilitate leadership qualities in them.

The executive board is made up of a president, vice president, secretary, and treasurer. Each graderoom is then represented by one elected member. Elections for representatives for the upper classes are held in the spring, and ninth grade representatives are elected at the end of September.

Chamber ensembles are small groups of musicians who are paired together, and meet during or after school to prepare chamber music for concerts or other events. These groups have played concerts for the Sisters of Mercy in their beautiful convent chapel, and at the McAuley Home for Retired Sisters.

Polish your vocal technique by studying more sophisticated repertoire in a chamber setting, singing a cappella, multi-lingual, or complex part-singing. Chorale rehearses on Tuesday and Thursday mornings from 7:45 – 8:30 a.m. This is a half-credit course for those who love to sing, want to get better and create beautiful music. Members of Chorale sing at concerts throughout the year. Merion’s Chorale has consistently received the highest possible ranking, Superior, at the Pennsylvania Music Educators Adjudication.

The Dance Troupe is a team that consists of three sects: hip hop, liturgical, and pep squad. The hip hop sect performs at holiday concerts, BSU Showcases, and various assemblies while the liturgical sect performs during various prayer services and masses throughout the year. All students of all different religious backgrounds are welcome to participate in this section of the troupe. Lastly, the pep squad performs during home basketball games during the winter sports season. The troupe practices during co-curricular periods as well as after school to prepare for upcoming events. Students in the dance troupe can pick which sect they would like to participate within the club throughout the year.

This club meets after school on Mondays or Fridays, if there are more than five uke/guitar players who would like to form an ensemble.

Collaborate and create beautiful music through the sound of bells, offered for beginners through experienced bell-ringers! Handbells perform at the winter and spring concerts.

Led by Chris Monaco, who also directs for the esteemed Upper Darby Summer Stage program, MMMT performs two shows yearly. Almost a quarter of the school participates in the MMMT program, either on the stage, in the pit, or on the stage-crew. Membership is open to all students in singing, dancing and acting. The time commitment is from November to March.

Study and perform a vast repertoire with other instrumentalists, from classical music to popular theatrical extravaganzas. Orchestra rehearses on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:15 – 4:15. This is a half-credit course and participation is by audition only.

Merion Mercy’s select A Capella group rehearses on Monday morning from 7:45 - 8:30 a.m. and Wednesday mornings from 8 - 9 a.m. This is a small, select auditioned group. They travel and perform at various fundraisers, competitions and events. Members of Sirens also all participate in Chorale.

The Stage Crew is an integral part of the Merion Mercy Music Theater, as well as being a group which provides technical service for all assemblies, concerts, and events. Members learn lighting, sound and set construction. Membership is open to all interested students.
