Lent is a holy Season, when we, God's people, intentionally unite in prayer, fasting, and almsgiving for the sake of growing in relationship with God, one another, and ourselves.
Lent is a 40-day period which begins on Ash Wednesday and ends at sundown on Holy Thursday. It prepares us to celebrate the Lord's Resurrection at Easter. During Lent, we as God's beloved people, strive to become more Christlike by growing in faith, hope, and love. We recall that in the waters of Baptism we were baptized into Christ's death through the renunciation of evil and sin and united with Christ in new life.
Please find helpful resources for Lent, on MyMMA in the Resource section under the tile "Campus Ministry." In this section, you will find "Words for the Weary: Daily Reflections for Lent 2021." This is a resource we have purchased. You have copyright permission to copy and print if you would like a "hard copy." Or, feel free to use it digitally.
Ash Wednesday and Good Friday are obligatory days of fasting and abstinence for Catholics. In addition, Fridays during Lent are obligatory days of abstinence. For members of the Roman Catholic Church, the norms on fasting are obligatory from age 18 until age 59. When fasting, a person is permitted to eat one full meal as well as two smaller meals that together are not equal to a full meal. The norms concerning abstinence from meat are binding upon members of the Roman Catholic Church from age 14 onwards.
