MMA Weekly • November 1, 2020 Welcome to the MMA Weekly! The MMA Weekly covers important announcements, the school calendar, and other co-curricular updates. Since the calendar is subject to occasional adjustments, please be sure to visit the calendar on the MyMMA platform or check the live calendar on our website throughout the week too. Thanksgiving Food Drive The Ministry Team is kicking off Merion Mercy's annual Thanksgiving Food Drive. Collaborating with Mercy Neighborhood Ministries, the Ministry Team engages the entire school community in collecting non-perishable food items that will make up Thanksgiving meals for families in need. Students will be provided with more information in/bring the non-perishable food items to their Advisory Groups. The drive will begin the week of November 9 and conclude the morning of November 23. As Dr. Pidot noted, "Your energy, presence, and careful cooperation with the complexities created by Covid made a big difference." Many thanks for helping to ensure a fun film festival for our girls. Volunteer Clearances All parents are reminded that in order to volunteer at MMA in a capacity that involves interacting with our students, you must have on file the proper background checks, clearances, and training certificates. This includes parents who are driving club/team members to games/events, assisting coaches with teams, helping with student clubs or activities, helping with Development or Admissions events involving students, etc. One of the requirements involves attending an in-person class. Plan ahead—don't wait and have to scramble at the last minute! A complete list of these requirements can be found at: Parent Volunteer Clearances. Please note: If you have previously submitted clearances and you plan on volunteering this year, please check with Anne Gregg (agregg@merion-mercy.com) in the Main Office to verify that you are in compliance. Two of the background checks must be renewed every five years. Volunteers Needed for Friday's Sophomore Sisterhood Experience Sophomore parents, if you would like to volunteer to help with the Sophomore Sisterhood Experience scheduled for this Friday, November 6, please click here for more information and to sign up. Volunteers will be on site from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Mothers' Cupboard Update The entire Parents Association wholeheartedly supports the efforts of our Ministry team and their Thanksgiving food drive. So that we don't divert valuable resources from their collection and Mercy Neighborhood Ministries, the Mothers' Cupboard collection will be held early in December to assist the Community Center at Visitation with their holiday food distribution. Look for details in the MMA Weekly in the future. Spirit Shop If you are interested in ordering a commemorative blanket, please visit the ordering site here by November 6. These blankets come in several styles, are a lovely addition to a dorm room, bedroom, or family room, and can be personalized with your daughter's name and year (or number on the athletic design). Purchases will be shipped directly to homes the week of November 29. Everyday Way to Support MMA: AmazonSmile AmazonSmile is a website operated by Amazon with the same products, prices, and shopping features as Amazon.com.
