Blue/Gold Groups As a reminder, the Blue group will be physically in school Mondays and Tuesdays; the Gold group will be physically in school Wednesdays and Thursdays. Please note: Occasionally these days will change if students have a day off during the week. If there is a day off during the week, the adjustments will be noted on the calendar. For example, the week of September 6, students are off September 7, so, for that week, the Blue group will meet Tuesday and Wednesday; the Gold group will meet Thursday and Friday. Calendar Our major dates calendar can be found on MyMMA or in the Calendar section of the school website. Orientation Because of the new hybrid schedule, the uniqueness of having been away for so many months, and the desire to bring everyone along with COVID-19 expectations, orientation will take place over the course of four days. Each day will be designed with activities specific to each grade. Transfer students will have orientation with the grade into which they're entering. Students enjoy the synchronous and in-person experiences based on their grade level: - Monday, August 31 for freshmen
- Tuesday, September 1 for sophomores
- Wednesday, September 2 for juniors
- Thursday, September 3 for seniors
- Friday, September 4 will be a day off
Each grade's experience entails three dimensions: asynchronous (independent), synchronous (online with classmates), and in-person (on-campus). Within each dimension the students will be oriented around what school life will be like in 2020-2021 from the mission-centric to the practical to the personal and social: - Themes of the asynchronous portion include "Introduction to Mercy;" "Day in the Life of a Student;" and "COVID-19 Realities." The asynchronous dimension will consist of short pre-made (instructional) videos that will be shared in advance for students to watch on their own time leading up to the day of their grade's designated orientation, and will feature information on the hybrid schedule, advisory system, and health and safety protocols.
- Themes of the synchronous portion include "Who's Who: Meet Faculty and Staff" and "Holistic High School: the Communal and Spiritual." The synchronous dimension will consist of live, grade-wide Zooms from 9 to 9:45 a.m. of each orientation day, and will feature prayers, teachers, advisors, and break-out rooms for conversation.
- Themes of the in-person portion include "Welcome Home" and "Making Friends among Sisters." The in-person dimension will be spent at school in small (advisory) groups for responsible/safe socializing and rotating access to the facility for a building tour of relevant spaces from 1 until 3 p.m. There will not be any transportation provided by townships or private busing and no food service that day. Students do not need to be uniform that day—blue and gold attire is always welcome, though.
We will be providing links to the video modules and Zoom meetings along with more planning details in our next MOST communication on August 28. Transportation Merion Mercy is awaiting updates from some school district transportation offices. Updates related to each district will be posted here as MMA receives them. If families have questions regarding bus transportation, they are encouraged to reach out directly to the school district's transportation office. |
