June 13, 2019 eNEWSLETTER Congratulations to all members of the Class of 2019 and their families! One hundred and five Merion Mercy Academy seniors graduated on June 2. Members of MMA's Class of 2019 received 536 acceptances to 152 colleges and universities. They also earned 325 merit scholarships totaling $18,763,520.
In the graduation address, graduation speaker Maria Martino inspired her classmates: "Let us not go through life afraid of the what ifs. Instead, let us grab the what ifs and fly as high as we possibly can. Be ambitious, have seemingly unthinkable aspirations, reach goals you once thought were unattainable, fly. We have been dreaming our whole lives, it is time to make those dreams our realities."
Congratulations to all of our students as the school year comes to an end and thank you to all MMA families, who support their daughters and our school community at every turn.
Enjoy a happy, healthy summer! Office and Department Updates
Academics Final report cards will be mailed on Friday, June 14 to parents. Transcripts will be mailed to the seniors' choices of college later the following week. Report cards and transcripts are being withheld from students who have not met all financial obligations (including tuition), submitted health forms, and/or not returned all textbooks, locker keys, sports uniforms, etc. Notices have been sent to the parents of students who have outstanding materials or fees. Once the materials are fully returned and/or fees fully paid the report card and transcript will be released.
The online grading portal for 2018-19 is closed. The portal is open for summer courses taking place at MMA. Summer courses are in the 19-S1 year. It is not possible to have two years open at the same time, that's why the 2018-19 school year needs to be closed.
Many students received awards at the assemblies at the end of the year. Please check the home page of our web site for a link to the lists of end-of-year award winners and students achieving second semester honors. Congratulations to all students who did their best this year.
The classes of 2020, 2021, and 2022 have received a list of the courses they will be taking next year along with a brief description of the process for ordering summer reading books and books for next year. The information, including course code numbers, will be necessary for students to use when purchasing books through the website www.merion-mercy.bkstr.com. A list of summer reading and other summer assignments was printed on the reverse side of the sheet.
A link to summer assignments can be found on the home page of Merion Mercy's website. Please encourage your daughter to get an early start on her summer work so that it does not pile up in August. Students taking Advanced Placement courses, in particular, have preliminary assignments that will be due when school begins in late August. Students are also required to read certain books for other courses and complete math and language reviews. Ask your daughter to check the detail under each department tab on the Summer Assignments eBoard for a description of the work that is required.
The bookstore site for summer books was activated at the end of May. The site for purchasing textbooks for the fall will open on July 9. Please order your books early so that they arrive in plenty of time to complete summer work and so that your daughter will be ready for classes in the fall. Please refer to the flyer posted on Summer eBoard (link found on the left side the Academics page of MMA's website) for further information on purchasing books. In the Summer Assignment eBoard, select Welcome, then select the link at the bottom of the window: It's Easy–Merion Mercy Bookstore.doc. If you have a question about the ordering of books or a problem with your order, please contact Mrs. Kelley Glynn, assistant to Miss Danovich, at kglynn@merion-mercy.com.

MMAnnual Fund MMAnnouncements Sip 'n Bid 2019 Please mark your calendars and plan to join us for the 43rd annual Sip 'n Bid auction and dinner on Saturday, November 23. In the coming weeks, you will receive more information on the auction as well as the many ways to get involved in planning and supporting our school's largest fundraiser!
Sip 'n Bid traditionally has been a way to kick off the holiday season at MMA. In the spirit of this tradition, we will hold a "Christmas in July" celebration, so supporters can get an early start to Sip 'n Bid giving and bring auction gifts to school. We will have a "Christmas in July" tree set up, so you can drop off your donation(s) at the tree from July 22-25. On July 25, we will host a "Christmas in July" celebration in the Advancement Office. This would be a great time to drop off your donation(s) and join us for some refreshments and learn more information about this year's auction. If you cannot donate in person, we will share a wish list next week, and you can donate online through an Amazon wish list.
All donations (those made in person or through Amazon) that come in by July 25 will get a free Sip 'n Bid cash prize raffle ticket (valued at $20 each; first prize is $5,000) and a chance to win a free admission ticket to the auction. More details will be sent by email soon.
Spring Break 2020: Costa Rica Merion Mercy Academy is traveling to Costa Rica during Spring Break 2020! Students and chaperones will be participating in sea turtle conservation service, as well as exploring the cultural and geographical diversity of Costa Rica. The trip is open to rising sophomores, juniors, and seniors. There are a handful of spots left, so don't miss your chance to travel and learn with us! Please email Ms. Trish Nowlan, Language Department chair and lead chaperone, at pnowlan@merion-mercy.com for more information about the trip and registration. Important deadlines for the guaranteed lowest price are approaching quickly!
Spirit Shop Thank you for your support of the Spirit Shop this year. There are no regular hours over the summer, and the Spirit Shop will reopen in September with brand-new sweatshirts, tees, and other items. (Be sure to check the sale rack, too, as we have some of last year's merchandise there to make room for what's new.)
Senior Portraits for Class of 2020 By now your daughter should have received information via email about scheduling her senior portrait. This email also contains information about choosing her yearbook pose and submitting a baby picture to the yearbook staff. If your daughter did not receive this, please email Mrs. Debbie Bevilacqua at dbevilacqua@merion-mercy.com. Portrait sessions are being held at school June 17-19. (There is a separate date for Italy trip participants.) Makeup/retake days will be held at school August 22-23. If your daughter cannot make any of those dates, you will need to schedule an appointment at the LifeTouch studio in Bensalem. Please check the email for details.
