Dear Merion Mercy School Community,

I am honored and thrilled to be appointed Head of School of Merion Mercy Academy and truly appreciate the opportunity to lead this extraordinary, vibrant, and faith-filled school.

When I arrived on campus as a candidate last fall, I had the opportunity to meet with different groups and learn more about the Merion Mercy community.  Alumnae spoke with affection about the friendships they had forged and how Merion Mercy helped them develop confidence and find their voices.  Parents shared their high aspirations for their daughters and their desire for them to be known and supported.  I met with faculty and staff who posed questions to me that highlighted their academic expertise, devotion to the school, and dedication to high standards.

Finally, I had the pleasure of spending time with students–strong and confident young women who spoke in very clear terms about the pride they felt regarding the diversity of Merion Mercy Academy.  I especially liked seeing their sisterhood in the funny and supportive messages they wrote to each other on lockers and in the easy way they joked with each other.

Visiting with all of these groups gave me a deeper understanding of Mercy Spirit, the strong and enduring thread that binds the community together and unites the school in common purpose.  As we build a future together in the years ahead, I will hold true to the core values of Merion Mercy Academy while seeking fresh and innovative ways to work with the faculty and staff to provide dynamic educational opportunities for future generations of Mercy girls.

I have been very touched by all the messages of support I have received since Merion Mercy announced that I would be joining you as your new head.  Not only was I struck by so many expressions of affection for the school, but I was also impressed by the spirit of optimism and excitement for the future contained in the messages.

We have exciting work ahead of us as we build upon Merion Mercy's foundation of excellence.  I look forward to partnering with you as Merion Mercy continues to expand its legacy as a school that challenges and supports girls as they deepen their faith and develop to their fullest potential; give of themselves generously to effect positive changes in our global community; and develop healthy and positive relationships they will carry with them for the rest of their lives.

I look forward to introducing you to my husband,

Tony, as well as my daughter, Lucy (who begins college next fall), and my son, Will, in the months ahead.

I can't wait for July!

With warm regards,

Laura Farrell
