Philosophy (Healthy Living)

The Healthy Living curriculum is designed to promote a lifestyle of good health of both mind and body. Every student is a unique individual with a combination of physical, mental, social, and spiritual aspects. This curriculum allows the student to develop to her fullest potential in each of these areas. Not only are the teaching values and concepts important, but proper application of both is the intended outcome for the students. Health education teaches students to become a total person and to gain a lifetime of health and well being.

Through a planned program of instruction our students will gain an intelligent understanding of their bodies and minds in order to achieve the highest degree of physical and mental well being.

Department Goals

  • Be given knowledge to make decisions that are healthy, safe, legal and responsible.

  • Understand the value in valuing and improving their health.

  • Realize the importance of physical activities, body mechanics, sports and recreation in maintaining a healthy body and mind.

  • Learn the guidelines to achieve and maintain good nutrition.

  • Possess the knowledge and application of the basic first aid techniques and methods.

Philosophy (Physical Education)

Physical Education is an integral part of the education of students enforcing sportsmanship and the practice of ethical principles. It instills the use of Christian values and self-discipline. Physical Education places emphasis on social, mental, emotional, and recreational well being of the students. It becomes an extremely important element of a student’s lifelong fitness awareness. Classes provide a wide variety of activities aimed at developing bodily strength, coordination, and endurance according to individual needs. Physical education teaches students to become a total person through participation in fitness and physical activities on a daily basis.

Graduation Outcomes

  • Understand the benefits of fitness by incorporating physical activity into their daily lives.

  • Become aware of the correlation between physical activity and the release of stress in one’s life.

  • Develop a respect for fair play and sportsmanship.

  • Develop a personal fitness plan.

  • Have the experience of proper use of various types of exercise equipment.

  • Have the knowledge to improve various level of fitness, mainly through cardiovascular exercise, muscular strength, and muscular endurance.
