Merion Mercy Inducts More than 125 Students in Academic Honor Societies

On April 3, 2023, Merion Mercy Academy held its annual induction ceremony for its academic honor societies, which include the French Honor Society, Latin Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta (Mathematics), Science National Honor Society, Rho Kappa (Social Studies), and Spanish Honor Society. While each society has a distinct pledge, across national honor societies there are four pillars and principles of excellence: Scholarship, Service, Leadership and Character.

Eligibility for the French Honor Society/La Société Honoraire de Français and the Latin Honor Society/Latina Honoris Societas requires:

  • Three consecutive semesters of an A grade 

  • Dedicated interest in the continued study of the language

The French Honor Society welcomed four new sophomore members and the Latin Honor Society welcomed 11 new junior and sophomore members.

 

Eligibility for high school students in the Math Honor Society/Mu Alpha Theta includes:

  • Completing the equivalent of two years of college preparatory mathematics, including algebra and/or geometry

  • Completing or enrolled in a third year of college preparatory mathematics

  • Maintaining at least a 3.0 math grade point average

This year, Mu Alpha Theta welcomed 16 new junior and sophomore members. 

 

To be eligible for the Science National Honor Society, a student must:

  • Maintain a 3.0 GPA in all courses

  • Maintain a 3.7 GPA across all science courses

  • Complete three science courses; at least one course at the honors level or an upper level science course 

  • Take at least one science course all 4 years at MMA (including senior year).

This year, the Science Honor Society welcomed 19 new junior members.

 

Membership in the Social Studies Honor Society/Rho Kappa requires:

  • Completion two years of Social Studies classes

  • A GPA of 3.8 or higher in all completed Social Studies courses

  • A cumulative GPA of 3.65 or higher 

  • Demonstrated interest, active participation, and potential leadership in extra-curricular activities (school sponsored or community based) related to the academic disciplines within the Social Studies. 

Rho Kappa welcomed 79 new senior, junior and sophomore members.

 

The Spanish Honor Society/La Sociedad Honoraria Hispánica welcomes those students who:

  • Have a grade of A or above for 3 consecutive semesters

  • Have chosen to continue their study of the language into the 3rd and 4th year

This year, the Spanish Honor Society inducted 12 new junior and sophomore members.
