In June 2024, five Merion Mercy Academy juniors and seniors—Shayla Adams, Annie Askin, Maggie Judge, Chiarra Mazza, and Stacey Reese—were among 44 attendees at the Conference of Mercy Student Leaders, held this year at the University of Detroit Mercy. Nine Mercy schools from as far away as Belize and Honduras were represented at the event, which was sponsored by Mercy Education.
Participants deepened their understanding of the mission of Mercy and Catherine McAuley, engaged with Mercy Critical Concerns by planning advocacy projects for their school communities, participated in service learning, and enhanced their individual leadership skills and goals through various exercises and activities.
Annie Askin ‘25 said of the conference:
“We could not have asked for a better experience! We heard from interesting speakers and developed our leadership skills. We learned about Critical Concerns and other Mercy schools, but most importantly we learned about the girls we came with, which was the most rewarding part. We can’t wait to share what we learned with the MMA community!”
Attending the event with the students was Maya Johnson ‘12, Merion Mercy’s Director of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging.
