Seniors Commit to Collegiate Athletics on National Girls and Women in Sports Day

On February 6, 2025—National Girls and Women in Sports Day—Merion Mercy Academy recognized two of its seniors who have committed to collegiate athletics. This is no easy feat. Only about 7% of high school athletes make it to the next level.

In her welcome, Shannon Fisher, Director of Athletics, said:

“It is inspiring (and intentional) that our winter Signing Day ceremony falls on the same day as National Girls and Women in Sports Day. This national day of recognition was initiated by the Women in Sports Foundation to advocate for sports equity. The goals of the day are to build public awareness by recognizing those who have worked to make Title IX a reality and to continue to achieve equity in sports at all levels. This celebration inspires girls and women to play and be active, to realize their full power. The confidence, strength and character gained through sports participation are the very tools girls and women need to become strong leaders in sports and life.”
