Ricordia: How to Balance Schoolwork and Sports

By Annie Verdi '28

It is no secret that many Merion girls participate in sports, but the question remains, how do you balance schoolwork with sports? The first thing to take into account is time management. Ask yourself these questions: “when do I have practice?” and “when are my assignments due?” then look for the time in between. Spend your extra hours at home or days you do not have practice getting assignments done. You could even keep your own planner if you find that to be more helpful than simply using the assignment center in MyMMA. Another thing to consider when attempting to balance a busy schedule is those around you, including teachers and classmates. If you miss class because of a game, reach out to a peer to find out what you missed and be sure to utilize a teacher’s office hours. However, even with these two suggestions it can still be a struggle to keep up with everything happening around you. At the end of the day, it is best to find what works for you, not just others. Although there is no easy way out of this, soccer player for Merion Mercy, Liv Siorek, shared that “With the support I had from all those around me and with hard work, I was able to find a rhythm and what works best for me.” Be sure to utilize all of your resources until you find your rhythm, just like Liv.
