MMA Announces Commitment to Install New Artifical Multi-Purpose Field

The excitement is palpable throughout Merion Mercy Academy! Following the recent announcement of a $9.1 million contribution from The Howley Foundation—earmarked for scholarships, enrollment management initiatives, the Center for Applied Biological and Health Sciences, and the Academic Center for Excellence—the Board of Trustees has made a steadfast commitment to install an artificial multi-purpose field on campus with the vision of expanding this into a complete sports complex. This decision supports the goals of our strategic plan and represents a significant step forward in enhancing our athletic facilities.

Fundraising efforts for this project have reached an inspiring milestone—we've attained half of our $3 million goal. Although this progress is exceptional—courtesy of support from several of our Merion families—our primary focus is now directed towards securing the remaining funds. This is vital to ensuring the absolute success of this initiative and to paving the way for a groundbreaking ceremony this spring.

A sports complex at Merion Mercy will elevate the quality of our athletic programs and support our students' growth, well-being, and overall success on and off the field. Artificial turf is a more resilient and long-lasting playing surface that will allow for fewer weather-related interruptions, reduce the number of injuries by providing a consistent surface, and better prepare our athletes for highly competitive high school leagues as well as faster play at the college level. This investment will foster a profound sense of pride, and a culture of excellence within our community.
