Merion Mercy Juniors Earn 2026 Good Citizenship Awards

Juniors Corinne Chapolini and Amelia Deibel were recently honored with the 2026 Union League Good Citizenship Awards from Founding Forward, an organization dedicated to engaging students in civic education through American history.

The awards were presented during Good Citizen Day, a long-standing tradition now in its 80th year and hosted by the Union League of Philadelphia. This special day recognizes high school students who exemplify the qualities of responsible American citizens and aims to inspire civic engagement and leadership through workshops and small group discussions exploring the rights and responsibilities of citizenship and the principles of the United States Constitution.

Every year, youth-serving partner organizations throughout Greater Philadelphia nominate 260+ students for the award. Both Corinne and Amelia were among 18 young women selected by the Girl Scouts of Eastern Pennsylvania. Awardees are selected based on qualities such as hard work and fair play, as well as personal attributes including honesty, courage, tolerance, curiosity, and loyalty. They also demonstrate a commitment to upholding the principles of American patriotism.

Amelia said of the experience, “I had an excellent time! It was super interesting to be able to listen to lectures analyzing different cases that went through the Supreme Court. I also really enjoyed being able to branch out and meet other students who were there representing other organizations!”

We congratulate Amelia and Corinne on this honor, which exemplifies the Mercy core values of Educational Courage and Principled Leadership.
