Merion Mercy Junior Selected for Prestigious National Student Leadership Summit

Junior Hailey Kenefick has been selected by the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association (PIAA) as one of just 16 student-athletes to represent the state at the 2025 National Student Leadership Summit (NSLS) in Indianapolis this July.

Hosted by the National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS), the summit brings together student-athletes from across the country to explore contemporary issues in education-based athletics and performing arts. The event emphasizes the importance of leadership, inclusion, and character development, while empowering participants to be positive forces in their schools, communities, and states.

"As a three-sport athlete at Merion Mercy Academy, I want to bring new insights to all three of my teams,” Hailey shared. “I look forward to learning new leadership techniques and perspectives that I can apply here at Merion. I want to build a sense of community with my teammates and create an environment of support both on and off the court. The NSLS will provide me with a foundation that I can build off of to better myself as a captain and an athlete. I also look forward to meeting athletes from all over the state and country. It will be amazing to get to know other student-athletes and hear their stories."

At the summit, participants will dive into key topics such as:

  • Creating a positive team or club culture

  • Strengthening communication with peers and adults

  • Fostering healthy relationships with teammates, coaches, and officials

  • Finding balance and perspective to support mental well-being

  • Planning for life beyond high school

  • Promoting and advocating for inclusion

Hailey's selection is a testament to her dedication, leadership, and the values she embodies as a Merion Mercy student. We are proud to see her represent not only the state of Pennsylvania but also the spirit of Merion Mercy at this national event. As she carries her voice, values, and vision to the NSLS, she brings with her the heart of a leader and the promise of a Mercy education in action.
