Madison McGrath ‘26 Named Philadelphia Phillies All-Star Student

On April 29, 2026, Merion Mercy Academy senior Madison McGrath was recognized as an All-Star Student by the Philadelphia Phillies organization. Each year, 10 Philadelphia-area students in grades pre-K through 12 are selected for this honor based on teacher nominations, recognizing students who go above and beyond both inside and outside the classroom.

Nominated by math teacher and department chair Julie Montague, Madison was presented with a plaque. The award also includes a $1,000 donation to Merion Mercy Academy in Madison’s name from program sponsor LF Driscoll.

In her nomination, Miss Montague described Madison as exemplifying “what it means to strive for excellence, lead with compassion, and inspire others to improve their communities.” She highlighted Madison’s outstanding performance in Honors Calculus, noting not only her academic excellence but also her willingness to help classmates better understand the material. As president of the Math Honor Society, Madison has organized school supply drives for Cradles to Crayons and led tutoring initiatives for local elementary school students.

“The way in which she spreads a love for academic success in others is something I have never seen before,” Miss Montague wrote.

Beyond the classroom, Madison serves as pitcher and captain of the MMA softball team, earning recognition on the AACA All-Star Team and the All-Main Line All-Star Team, while also surpassing 200 career strikeouts. She also represents Merion Mercy as a member of the Varsity Mathletes team, Blue Key Society, and Podcast Club.

Outside of school, Madison is a dedicated Girl Scout who earned her Silver Award in 2022 and serves as a junior coach for First Tee of Greater Philadelphia. She is also a pitcher for her travel softball team.

Miss Montague concluded her nomination by writing:

“I have never seen a student who truly inspires others to reach their fullest potential inside and outside the classroom like Madison does. She is truly a one-of-a-kind individual that I am so proud to have taught.”
