“Into the Woods” Garners Six Cappies Nominations

In recognition of the extraordinary talent and dedication of its cast and crew, Merion Mercy Music Theater’s fall production of Into the Woods has earned six Cappies nominations. Announced on April 28, the 2026 nominees are:

  • Emily Beggs, Lighting
  • Christina Flanagan, Costumes
  • The Spirits of the Forest, Dance Ensemble
  • Willow Matthews, Vocalist in a Female Role
  • Emma Dolan, Vocalist in a Male Role
  • Ava Nardi-Fitzgerald, Comic Actor in a Female Role

Winners will be announced at the Cappies Gala on June 1, when students from across the region will gather to celebrate excellence in high school theater.

While Into the Woods did not receive a nomination for Best Musical, director Chris Monaco expressed tremendous pride in the production and the students who brought it to life. He reminded the cast and crew, “The work we do for MMMT is important; it moves people and helps us all to grow and discover more about ourselves as artists and people.”

He also encouraged students to revisit the enthusiastic reviews from Cappies critics, including this praise: “The cast and crew displayed a vibrant performance, showcasing strong ensemble chemistry within the forest and spirited charm. The actors' attention to detail, shown in their animated facial expressions, paired with their beautiful harmonies, truly brought the fictional characters to life.”

The Cappies—short for the Critics and Awards Program—is a national initiative that trains high school students to become strong writers, thoughtful critics, and engaged leaders. Student critics attend peer productions, publish reviews, and vote on end-of-season awards, culminating in a Tony Awards-style celebration honoring the best in high school theater.

Merion Mercy congratulates all of this year’s nominees and celebrates the entire Into the Woods cast and crew for bringing such energy, artistry, and heart to the stage.
