Broadway Alumna Returns to Merion Mercy to Workshop "Mamma Mia!"

As if performing Mamma Mia! weren’t exciting enough, Merion Mercy Music Theater (MMMT) is thrilled to welcome back alumna Alyse Alan Louis (Alyse Wojciechowski ’05), who starred as Sophie in her Broadway debut of the beloved musical in 2009. On January 14, Alyse will return to her alma mater to host a workshop with the cast of Mamma Mia!

Reflecting on her love of the creative process, Alyse shares, “I love the process part [of performing] the most, and I’m lucky to be in the room with you all. That’s a sacred place.”

A native of Havertown, PA, Alyse is no stranger to the stage. Before Broadway, she honed her craft as a member of Upper Darby Summer Stage, Merion Mercy Music Theater, and St. Joe’s Prep’s Cape and Sword Drama Society. Following her time at Merion Mercy, Alyse pursued her passion at NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts, earning her BFA in Theater from the prestigious CAP21 Musical Theatre Program. Just a few years later, she achieved a dream many only imagine—her Broadway debut in a yearlong production of Mamma Mia! at The Winter Garden Theatre. It was there that she met her husband, Eric William Morris, who played opposite her in the show.

Alyse’s career is a testament to her dedication to new and meaningful work. Most recently, she starred as “Dawn” in the musical Teeth, a project she has championed since its early development in 2011. The show’s two Off-Broadway productions earned Alyse award nominations for her performance. She is also Drama Desk and Grammy-nominated for her portrayal of “Hillary Clinton” in the groundbreaking Off-Broadway musical Soft Power.

Regionally, Alyse has graced the stages of notable theaters such as Walnut Street Theatre, The Prince Music Theatre, and Bucks County Playhouse. Her powerful performances are immortalized on several original cast recordings, including Teeth, Soft Power, Pretty Filthy, A New Brain, Amélie, and White Girl in Danger.

Merion Mercy’s Mamma Mia! cast will be inspired not only by Alyse’s remarkable journey but also by her wisdom and energy as they prepare to bring this dazzling production to life. The show tells the story of a young woman’s quest to discover her father’s identity, weaving the magic of ABBA’s iconic songs into a tale of love, laughter, and friendship. With a large cast, laugh-out-loud moments, and electrifying dance numbers, this year’s MMMT production promises to be a spectacle audiences won’t soon forget.

Performances will take place on February 22, 23, 28, and March 1 and 2. Don’t miss this unforgettable trip to the Greek isles—complete with unforgettable music and heartwarming storytelling. For details and tickets, visit the Merion Mercy website.
