Bringing Together Fathers, Father Figures, and Daughters

Merion Mercy Academy recently celebrated the special bond between fathers, father figures, and daughters through two cherished events: the Dads and Donuts morning and a service project at Old Rittenhouse Town on November 3. More than 130 fathers joined their daughters at school for the annual Dads & Donuts event, and nearly 50 turned out for Saturday’s service project in northwest Philadelphia's Wissahickon Valley Park.

Debbie Bevilacqua, Parent Engagement Manager, noted that the beautiful fall day at Old Rittenhouse Town was an opportunity for students and their fathers to “show their care for the earth, which is one of the critical concerns of the Sisters of Mercy.” The group had two primary tasks: planting grass seed along a recently rebuilt rock wall, and watering the plantings and pollinator gardens scattered throughout the village.

Both events embody the spirit of connection and service that Merion Mercy Academy holds dear, creating memories that strengthen the ties between fathers and daughters. In coming together to care for the earth and for each other, these families live out the values of Mercy in a way that deepens their bonds and brings the school’s mission to life.
