Alumna Lives Collegiate Athlete's Dream with NCAA Championship Team Win

On November 23, 2025, Merion Mercy Academy alumna Kerry McCormick ’23 lived every collegiate athlete’s dream. Her Northwestern University Division I field hockey team clinched the NCAA Championship in a thrilling 2–1 double-overtime victory over Princeton University—marking Northwestern’s second consecutive national title.

A key back in Northwestern’s nationally ranked defense, Kerry played 46 pivotal minutes in the championship game and served as a steady, invaluable presence throughout the season.

Kerry’s success comes as no surprise to the Merion Mercy community. During her Golden Bears career, she was a four-time letter winner, two-time captain, and First Team All-Main Line honoree. She also earned a spot on the U.S. Women’s National Development Indoor Team in 2024.

Reflecting on the championship moment—“a huge mix of disbelief, joy, and relief all hitting at once”—Kerry credits Merion Mercy with shaping the competitor and teammate she is today. “Merion taught me discipline, resilience, and how to show up for my team no matter what. The balance of strong academics and competitive athletics pushed me to manage pressure and stay focused on and off the field.”

To current MMA student-athletes dreaming big, Kerry offers this advice: “Don’t be afraid to challenge yourself or take a chance because it’s easy to stay comfortable. It’s when you take a chance or follow your heart that the reward is worth it. As someone who transferred into a highly competitive program both academically and athletically, it was intimidating—but easily the best decision I’ve made.”
