Service Opportunities
Merion Mercy Academy's service programs exist to further the call of the Gospel, especially as lived by Catherine McAuley, and implemented by the mission of the Sisters of Mercy. Their mission is to proclaim and practice this call by integrating faith and social justice. To that end, we offer opportunities for both direct and social action and emphasize collaboration and reflection. Students are invited to share their time and talents in a variety of ways. The major service organizations are described below. For specific programs, refer to the List of Activities link in the Featured section.
Community Service Corps(CSC)
The Community Service Corps of Merion Mercy Academy, an affiliated chapter of the Archdiocesan Office for Youth and Young Adults, invites all students to participate in programs that serve their peers, children, the elderly, people with disabilities, and people who are poor or disadvantaged. CSC programs encourage student initiative and provide a means for students to respond to the Gospel message. Most of the weekly and monthly service activities are coordinated by CSC.
Mercy Volunteer Program (MVP)
The Mercy Volunteer Program provides educational and service immersion opportunities for students during the summer following junior year. Students and faculty travel to domestic and international sites to work in collaboration with community partners and in solidarity with people of diverse cultures, particularly with those who are materially poor. Volunteers live in community for a week or longer and are called to reflect on their roles as women of mercy.
Family Outreach
This program offers service opportunities to the extended MMA community. Students and family members coordinate events and volunteer at various sites, including Mercy Hospice and Philabundance.
